Acupuncture

During initial consultations I use various techniques and diagnostic methods including discussing patient history and symptoms, checking the pulse, looking at the tongue (sometimes the Iris)  and palpating the body. Once this is done, I form a diagnosis based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and formulate a bespoke treatment plan.

Acupuncture treatments involve the insertion of fine needles into the skin at specific points along channels in the body to activate the body’s own healing mechanisms by accessing qi.

Gua Sha

Involves using a massage tool (originally from the crystal, Jade) to lightly scrape the skin to dispel blood stasis and increase blood circulation to the area identified in diagnosis. Massage oil is applied to the skin and the Gua Sha tool is scraped gently along the skin to encourage circulation of the soft tissue. Gua Sha can be used in conjunction with both acupuncture and cupping and is a beautiful and nourishing treatment and is excellent in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions .

Moxa

Involves the burning of the herb, mugwort at certain points along the channel in order to bring heat/warmth to the affected area and to stimulate the white blood cells for healing.

Moxa can be used in a number of ways including on the needle, direct on the skin or by using a moxa stick depending on the desired effect/outcome. I am trained to use both Chinese Medicine moxa and Japanese style rice grain moxa.

I have successfully used moxa to support a variety of issues, but have had particular success with assisting to reduce inflammation of the joints and improve mobility for conditions such as arthritis.

Naturopathy

As a naturopath, I use a variety of natural therapeutic tools and practices which can include the use of supplements, nutrition, herbs, Bach flower essences, homeopathy, tissue salts and hydrotherapy in order to treat the whole person. Naturopathic advice is given as a bespoke part of your acupuncture treatment with me and is designed to empower you in your own healing process and journey.

Cupping

Often described as a reverse massage, cupping involves placing suction cups on the skin at certain points in the body. The aim is to move qi and blood in the body and disperse stagnation, thus eliminating pain. Cupping can be used in conjunction with acupuncture or as a stand alone treatment and can be used in a number of ways, including static cupping or sliding cupping using massage and essential oils.

In particular, I use cupping to assist in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and respiratory conditions.

Tui na

Tui na (Chinese medical massage) is one of the most ancient forms of medical massage originating some 3,000 years ago. It is based on the same system as Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture points and channels are stimulated with manual massage techniques, passive movements, directed Qi and intention.

This form of massage is mostly performed over a Tui na cloth, although at times massage medium may be applied.

Tui na can be performed alongside acupuncture or as a stand alone treatment.

I also have training in the feminine arts and shamanic womb massage and often incorporate elements of this into my practice.

I also have advanced training in pulse taking, fertility, master Tung bleeding, moxa and interpreting blood test results to name a few.
